If your child has turned 18 and graduated from high school or has emancipated, this Office may provide services to terminate a garnishment order for child support. If you have multiple children and your order provides that the child support obligation is reduced as each child emancipates, this Office may notify your employer to reduce the garnishment amount.
For both services, an accounting will be completed to determine whether the child support obligation has been paid in full. The accounting includes a review and interpretation of the underlying order and any subsequent modification which provides for child support. If the child support obligation is satisfied, an attorney may prepare a letter to the parent's employer seeking termination of the garnishment or withholding.
